Who’d have thought, just a few years ago, that a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder engine would become one of the most popular engines in a new car in Europe? But that’s exactly what’s happened with the increasingly impressive 1.0 litre EcoBoost from Ford which, as its power output has increased, has become a more and more popular engine of choice. The little Ford EcoBoost even seems to have persuaded buyers that they should forsake dirty diesel engines for it, and Ford has fitted 120,000 in the first six months of 2014 with almost half B-Max models, a third of Focus and 30 per cent of Fiestas getting the little wonder.
New Volvo V40 – Strong residuals
Volvo has had good news from the fleet industry with strong residuals forecast for the new 2012 Volvo V40 ahead of first customer cars. We’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen of the new Volvo V40; it’s a car that is right on the money in its style, its pricing and its range (although we’d like to see something more exciting at the top end). And now, with production of the V40 under way and the first customer cars expected to arrive in the UK in September, Volvo has had very good news from the fleet industry and the people who set residual values for car finance.
The Hyundai H800 India - a Tata Nano Competitor
Hyundai are certainly on a world domination quest and are making serious inroads in to the quality market in Europe. New cars like the Hyundai ix35 are bring serious competition to the VW Tiguan and the Ford Kuga, and next year’s Hyundai i40 is going to give Ford a few sleepless nights over the impact oin Mondeo sales. Maybe that’s part of the reason for the Ford price cuts just announced.
